PENSIONER CAUGHT WATCHING CHILD ABUSE BY HEALTH NURSE
A 70-year-old man was detained after a health nurse visiting his home discovered images of child sexual abuse on his computer screen.Donald Randle was identified by Nottinghamshire Police in December 2022, when a medical professional who was assisting him at his Clifton residence noticed the distressing material displayed on his computer.
During the courtroom hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, it was explained that Randle had allowed the nurse into his house for a medical check-up and appeared to have forgotten that a video showing the abusive images was running on his computer, which was situated in a corner of his living room.
When the nurse reacted with shock, Randle pushed past her, turned off the video, and then calmly sat down without speaking.
After completing the health assessment, the nurse left and contacted law enforcement authorities.
Police investigators arrived on the scene and confiscated several electronic items, including a computer, a laptop, and USB flash drives.
Forensic examination of these devices uncovered hundreds of images depicting the sexual exploitation of young children.
Among these, 87 images were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe forms of abuse involving adults exploiting children.
The devices also contained 212 Category B images and 578 Category C images.
In police interviews, Randle denied any knowledge of the images present on his devices.
He was charged with three counts of possessing indecent photographs of children.
His court case was postponed due to health issues; however, he pleaded guilty to all counts on October 24, 2025.
On February 4, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years, restricting his online activity and permitting police to monitor his conduct regularly.
Randle was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
